Yahoo Finance Jaguars' Keelan Cole breaks 2 franchise records, embarrasses Packers punter in the process
The Jacksonville Jaguars couldn’t quite pull a stunner against the Green Bay Packers, but don’t blame Keelan Cole.
Cole had a terrific punt return for a touchdown — and managed to rub some salt in the wounds of Packers punter J.K. Scott in the process. Cole’s nasty fake out of Scott sprung him free for the 91-yard score that gave Jacksonville an early 10-7 lead.
Scott was in a position to make a tackle ... before he wasn’t. That play won’t go on his career highlight reel.
The Packers would take the lead back. But Cole’s 12-yard touchdown catch tied it late in the third quarter, and the Jaguars actually led 20-17 in the fourth and had a chance to win on their final possession before a pair of sacks ended the threat and the game in a 24-20 loss.
Cole’s 91-yard punt return TD was the longest such score in Jaguars franchise history. The previous record belonged to Reggie Barlow, who ran one back from 85 yards back in 1998.
Cole also became the first player in Jaguars history with a punt return TD and a receiving TD in the same game. He’s also the first Packers opponent with a punt-return TD and a receiving TD in a game against them.
Two touchdowns and a humiliation of a punter. Pretty good day. All it was missing was the Jaguars winning the game.
