Is Channing Tatum investing in an astrology app?
It’s the publicity any brand would dream of: a beloved and stratospherically famous celebrity speaking about how accurate their product is, seemingly candidly.
Astrology app, The Pattern, is currently enjoying this attention, after actor Channing Tatum took to social media to ask his followers why The Pattern is so accurate.
Website down: This is what happens when a royal endorses your brand
“Yo anybody know of this s**t and can explain it to me! Cause [what the f***]?,” a stunned Tatum said.

“I need some answers… What is this Pattern s***? It’s an app I just downloaded.”
“How do you know what you know about me Pattern?” he asked.

“I don’t even know if anyone should know this stuff,” he continued.
“I was just in therapy yesterday — and yeah, I’m in therapy, whatever, everybody should be in therapy — and I just get a notification on my phone this morning – pops up, and, using the exact words that we were using in therapy… Is the phone listening? Are you listening through the phone?
“AI, the algorithm that is the pattern? Are you just listening through my phone and regurgitating the stuff I’m afraid of?”
He went on to ask the team at The Pattern app to get in touch with him, noting that if they knew so much about his life, they should know his phone number.
The video, now trending on Twitter, has some fans describing his obsession as a “big mood”, while others have celebrated how open the actor was about being in therapy.

But others wondered whether Tatum is an investor in the app.
“Looks like a possible publicity stunt for an app investing in,” one person tweeted.

Tatum may have been paid to advertise the app, others suggested.
“Idk if he’s promoting “the pattern” but you better believe I’m now downloading that ... thanks Channing Tatum,” added another person.

I don’t know but it’s kind of weird and also scary the impact that they can have on someone’s decision making. As soon as I saw the video on my TL I knew it was bullshit lol

If it was a publicity stunt, it worked, with the app crashing under the surge of interest.

Many of his fans admitted to downloading the app only because they had seen him speaking about it.
“Downloading the pattern app thank you Channing Tatum,” said one follower.
“I downloaded this app cause of Channing Tatum”’ is something that I’m able to say now,” another chimed in.
Celebrities who have crashed sites
Tatum is far from the first celebrity to have crashed a website.
In fact, when it comes to crashing websites, it’s practically a hobby for Britain’s royal family.
Meghan Markle crashes the website of almost every designer she wears, within hours of wearing their garments.
And for some designers, the effects are ruinous. The designer behind ISSA - which made the dress Princess Kate wore to announce her engagement - actually had her hair turn white and ultimately closed down her business after the royal appearance.
Welterweight boxer Dicky Eklund’s website crashed after actor Christian Bale thanked him during his Oscar acceptance speech for his role in The Fighter, based on Eklund’s life.
And when actress Anna Paquin declared her bisexuality, the Give a Damn campaign website - which she mentioned - crashed.
Kim Kardashian temporarily crashed the entire Apple App Store after releasing her Kimojis, while sister Kylie Jenner crashed Google analytics after launching her Lip Kits.
Then there’s K-Pop group BTS. They’ve crashed several websites, including a Korean tourism website with their song “With Seoul”.
A sweet and sour fried chicken website also went offline after a video of the band eating and enjoying the chicken came online.
Celebrities can even impact the stock market.
Snap Inc’s volumes plummeted after Kylie Jenner expressed her unhappiness with the app in February 2018.
“So does anyone else not open Snapchat anymore? Or is it just me... ugh this is so sad,” the makeup mogul wrote on Twitter.
