Virat Kohli has been called out and reprimanded after lashing out in a rare moment of anger in his team's Indian Premier League (IPL) victory.

Kohli's Royal Challenger Bangalore defeated the Sunrisers Hyperbad's in a six-run thriller, despite David Warner's confusion over a last moment ruling over a rarely seen rule enforced in cricket.

Despite the victory, Kohli let out a rare moment of rage upon his dismissal.

Sitting on 33 runs off 28 balls, Kohli played an unusually lackadaisical shot that went straight in the air off Jason Holder's delivery.

Kohli trudged off the pitch before he raised his bat and hit the boundary rope.

But the boundary rope wasn't the only inanimate object to cop his wrath.

The Indian captain then smacked a chair with his bat, which prompted many to call out Kohli for his rare moment of anger.

Kohli reprimanded after outburst

Following the outburst, the IPL charged Kohli with a Level 1 offence.

"Royal Challengers Bangalore captain Virat Kohli has been reprimanded for breaching the VIVO Indian Premier League’s (IPL) Code of Conduct during his team’s match against Sunrisers Hyderabad at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai," the statement read.

"Mr Kohli admitted to the Level 1 offence 2.2 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct.

"For Level 1 breaches of the Code of Conduct, the Match Referee’s decision is final and binding."

Fortunately for Kohli, Aussie Glenn Maxwell notched a half-century for the RCB and he even got the better of his Test teammate Warner, after being out for 54, which saw his side slide alarmingly from 1-96 to 9-143 while chasing down RCB's 8-149.
