Yahoo Finance TikToker disables comments after backlash for sharing cooking hack: 'A crime against humanity'
TikTok loves a good hack, but there is a line of diminishing returns where, once you pass it, TikTok turns against you.
That’s basically what happened to Emily Harper, who innocently thought she was teaching her 17,000 followers how to cook ground beef in a healthy way.
“Let me show you what I learned in nutrition [class] a couple years ago,” Harper captioned her video.
The TikTok shows Harper cooking ground beef, then pointing out all of the grease emerging from the meat. Grossed out, she takes out a colander and drains the meat before rinsing it off with tap water and putting it back on the pan.

The video accumulated more than 5 million views and plenty of angry comments about how dry and bland the beef must have tasted afterward. Harper eventually disabled the comments function on her video.
“That was a crime against humanity and the meat,” one user wrote on another one of Harper’s TikToks.

“That’s not grease, those are the juices from the meat being pushed out because of the heat (and it’s mostly water),” one Twitter user pointed out. “Rinsing the meat does nothing to reduce fat because fat is not water soluble.”
“I’m a vegetarian and I’m still bothered by how she ruined that meat,” another joked.
Based on Harper’s next TikTok upload, one of the biggest complaints she received was over her decision to pour grease down the drain. It’s not advised to rinse out greasy pans in the sink, as it can cause major plumbing issues.
“People acting like they never pour grease down the drain in my last vid. Calm down I rarely do it,” Harper wrote in the new video’s caption.
In another clip, Harper answered all of her most asked questions, starting with whether or not her infamous TikTok was a joke. Her answer: It wasn’t.
“Yes I seasoned it off video,” she added in the TikTok. “I know not to pour grease down the drain! It rarely happens. My sink is not clogged.”
