Have Insiders Sold MongoDB, Inc. (NASDAQ:MDB) Shares Recently?

Anyone interested in MongoDB, Inc. (NASDAQ:MDB) should probably be aware that the Independent Director, Charles Hazard, recently divested US$202k worth of shares in the company, at an average price of US$121 each. However, the silver lining is that the sale only reduced their total holding by 1.2%, so we're hesitant to read anything much into it, on its own.

MongoDB Insider Transactions Over The Last Year

In the last twelve months, the biggest single sale by an insider was when the Director, John McMahon, sold US$3.4m worth of shares at a price of US$173 per share. While we don't usually like to see insider selling, it's more concerning if the sales take place at a lower price. It's of some comfort that this sale was conducted at a price well above the current share price, which is US$131. So it is hard to draw any strong conclusion from it.

Does MongoDB Boast High Insider Ownership?

Another way to test the alignment between the leaders of a company and other shareholders is to look at how many shares they own. Usually, the higher the insider ownership, the more likely it is that insiders will be incentivised to build the company for the long term. MongoDB insiders own 13% of the company, currently worth about US$956m based on the recent share price. This kind of significant ownership by insiders does generally increase the chance that the company is run in the interest of all shareholders.
