Insiders at Accenture plc (NYSE:ACN) made a tidy sum after selling stock currently priced at US$258 at a price of US$259

Accenture plc's (NYSE:ACN) stock rose 4.7% last week, but insiders who sold US$194k worth of stock over the last year are probably in a more advantageous position. Selling at an average price of US$259, which is higher than the current price, may have been the best move for these insiders because their investment would have been worth less now than when they sold.

Although we don't think shareholders should simply follow insider transactions, we would consider it foolish to ignore insider transactions altogether.

Accenture Insider Transactions Over The Last Year

The Independent Director, Paula Price, made the biggest insider sale in the last 12 months. That single transaction was for US$194k worth of shares at a price of US$259 each. That means that an insider was selling shares at around the current price of US$258. While we don't usually like to see insider selling, it's more concerning if the sales take place at a lower price. Given that the sale took place at around current prices, it makes us a little cautious but is hardly a major concern. Paula Price was the only individual insider to sell over the last year.

Insider Ownership Of Accenture

I like to look at how many shares insiders own in a company, to help inform my view of how aligned they are with insiders. A high insider ownership often makes company leadership more mindful of shareholder interests. It's great to see that Accenture insiders own 0.1% of the company, worth about US$155m. I like to see this level of insider ownership, because it increases the chances that management are thinking about the best interests of shareholders.

So What Does This Data Suggest About Accenture Insiders?

The fact that there have been no Accenture insider transactions recently certainly doesn't bother us. It's heartening that insiders own plenty of stock, but we'd like to see more insider buying, since the last year of Accenture insider transactions don't fill us with confidence. Therefore, you should definitely take a look at this FREE report showing analyst forecasts for Accenture.
