Inquiry into gender retirement income gap

A parliamentary committee will look at boosting retirement incomes for women, who have about 50 per cent less in superannuation than men when they exit the workforce.

The cross party move by Labor senator Jenny McAllister, Liberal Sean Edwards and Larissa Waters from the Greens won the support of the upper house on Monday.

The Senate committee will investigate the impact lower retirement incomes have on women, potential drivers of lower superannuation and measures to provide women with secure incomes.
