Inner London homes for sale for less than £700,000 — the average cost of a Zone 2 flat

 (ES)
(ES)

The average cost of a Zone 2 flat is now £697,850 according to new data from estate agent Hamptons.

While considerably less than the overall property average for the travel zone, which is edging ever closer to £1 million, it also pales in comparison to the average cost of a house in Zone 2 — now a staggering £1.79 million.

Amid London’s sky-high property prices, rising interest rates, record inflation and soaring bills, securing a home may feel out of reach for many at the moment.

Would-be home buyers may welcome news of a potential stamp duty cut, expected to be announced by the Chancellor today, yet property experts warn that even a temporary cut in the buyers’ tax without wider reform to the housing market may push property prices and mortgage bills up further.

However, with interest rates expected to rise further in the run up to and into 2023, those thinking of buying may proceed with their moves — and look to fix relatively low rates for as long a period as possible.

And there are options out there for savvy buyers, if you know where to look.

From a W14 mansion block to a converted pub in E1, we’ve found apartments for sale in inner London boroughs — near a Zone 2 tube station — for less than the travel zone average of almost £700,000.
