TikTok dumbfounded over influencer's 'top secret' selfie hack: 'I've been lied to'

An influencer is divulging secret photo hacks “bloggers don’t want you to know” on TikTok.

Kara Del Toro is a social media influencer with over 1.6 million followers on Instagram and 1.3 million followers on TikTok. Needless to say, she knows what she’s talking about when it comes to the tricks of the trade, and taking the best photos.

On Feb. 1, Del Toro decided to pull back the curtain on how influencers achieve the perfect mirror selfie — because it’s not done the way you might think.

“I’m going to let you guys in on a top-secret for all the blogger mirror pictures you see,” Del Toro says in the video. “There is no mirror.”

After going through a slideshow of influencers posing in front of “mirrors” with their phones held up, Del Toro points out that it seems like bloggers have mirrors all over their homes, yet somehow manage to avoid getting a speck of dirt on them. In reality, it’s because they simply aren’t using mirrors at all. Instead, Del Toro says, they have another tactic

“Set up your phone on a tripod anywhere you want,” she explains. “Then you’re going to use your other phone as a prop. Then, using self-timer on your phone, you’re going to pose and what you get is a very crisp looking ‘mirror selfie.'”

A lot of TikTokers couldn’t believe that Del Toro casually dropped using “a second phone” as a prop, but others pointed out that they’ve kept old versions of their phones they could use or just borrow a roommate’s for the photo.

“Not me moving my giant ikea mirror all around the house chasing the sun,” one person joked.

“I feel like I’ve been lied to now,” another added.

“OMG, game changer!” a third person wrote. “Thank you for this.”
