HP boosts its ZBook laptops with new Intel chips and punchy displays
The work-oriented notebooks offer up to 4K displays with 1,000 nits of brightness.
Forget yearly laptop updates, these days you have to keep up with hardware upgrades at the risk of being outweighed by the competition. And so, even though it's barely been nine months since HP last released a ZBook device, it's quickly following up its Firefly models with a new range of work-oriented notebooks. Why the rush? Because a slew of laptops decked with Intel's new 11th-gen processors are inbound and HP isn't going to watch from the sidelines. Today, the company is unveiling the new ZBook G8 range of productivity-focused workstations featuring processing and hardware updates. There's also the familiar elements the line-up is known for: Bright, punchy displays and a plethora of ports.
The new trio includes the 15.6-inch ZBook Studio, Power and Fury models, with the latter also available in a larger 17.3-inch variant. They offer either Intel's Xeon or 11th Gen H-Series processors, all the way up to the Core i9, and the choice between full HD or 4K displays. In addition, the range comes with up 2TB internal storage.
But, there are some noticeable differences between the three newcomers. For instance, the Studio offers more GPU options. It's the only model to come with NVIDIA RTX 3060 to 3080 graphics. While, the ZBook Fury gives you the option of AMD Radeon Pro graphics. It also packs an impressive 1,000 nits of brightness on the 15.6-inch model if you can settle for a full HD display. That drops to 600 nits on the 4K unit and a maximum of 550 nits on the larger 17.3-inch variant. The Fury also provides the most memory at up to 128GB, compared to 32GB on the Studio and 64GB on the Power.
Those aforementioned ports include everything from a headphone jack to a USB-A and two Thunderbolt ports, a HDMI and Mini DisplayPort. While there's no info on prices yet, HP says the ZBook Power is its most affordable workstation, so you can expect it to be the cheapest of the bunch. You won't have to wait too long to see them in the wild, either, as all three ZBooks arrive in July.
