How much luxury does $5 million buy you around the world?
From a 1,700 square foot one-bedroom apartment in high-density city to a 15,000 square foot villa in holiday destination, the amount of property you can buy with a particular price point varies hugely across the world.
For an ample $5 million price tag, some areas of the world offer far more luxury than others.

According to research by global network Christie’s International Real Estate, property owners in Mexico get the most bang for their buck with properties sold in the Monterrey region at a massive 22,066 square-foot in size.
Similarly, countries located in south or central America offer a similar ample sized property for a $5 million price tag – Uruguay, Dominican Republic and Columbia are at the top of the list alongside Mexico as the places where property buyer’s money will go further.
New Zealand’s biggest city, Auckland, also makes the list of more affordable luxury homes with properties available at around 16,200 square meters.

Down the other end of the scale, real estate owners in Monte Carlo in Monaco have a much rawer deal, with the same $5 million buying only 1,399 square feet.
But recent sales of properties in Sydney show that buyers would struggle to find anything over 1,264 square feet in size without raising their price point.
In Australia’s second biggest city, Melbourne, that increases to a 2,025 square metre size.
Hong Kong and London are equally expensive, also hovering around the top of the list as the places where real estate is the most expensive by square meter.
