We know the founders of Microsoft and Amazon, Bill Gates and Jeff Bezos, are among the top three richest men in the world.
In fact, Jeff Bezos earns US$8.9 million per hour - which is roughly 315 times Amazon US’ median annual worker pay.
An Amazon worker earning the US$15 minimum wage would need to work about 597,412 hours - or 24 hours a day for 68 years - to earn what Bezos earns in one hour.
So how do Microsoft and Amazon’s Aussie employees’ salaries compare?
According to PayScale, which surveys real employees’ salaries, the average salary at Microsoft is $118,000, while the average salary at Amazon is a lower at $102,000.
Here’s what each employee is worth:
Software engineer: A software engineer at Microsoft earns, on average, $115,016, but can earn up to $137,000 depending on experience. Seniors earn an average of $142,800, but some employees have reported earning up to $166,000.
Software developer: Software developers make around $104,899 per year, or up to $139,000 depending on experience.
Data scientist: A data scientist stands to earn, on average, $119,179 per year, but some employees have reported a salary of $151,000.
Account manager: Account managers earn, on average, $98,521, and account executives earn around $112,516.
Finance manager: Finance managers have reported salaries of $102,988, or up to $123,000 depending on experience.
Information Technology Consultant: IT consultants stand to earn, on average, $98,329 - or up to $145,000.
Software engineer: Software engineers earn $112,406 on average.
Software developer: Developers stand to earn $108,223, but can earn up to $147,000 depending on experience. Software development managers make, on average, $142,585 per year.
Data scientist: Data scientists report average earnings of $115,857, and data engineers earn an average of $109,323.
Account manager: Technical account managers earn an average of $110,615, but some former employees have reported earnings of up to $163,000.
Financial analyst: Financial analysts at Amazon earn an average of $92,934 per year - but can make up to $114,000.
Recruiters: Recruiters at Amazon earn an average of $65,145, but can earn up to $93,000 depending on experience.
