Austin Rivers prevents James Harden from recording triple-double, instantly feels terrible

James Harden should have had a triple-double on Tuesday night.

The Houston Rockets star was just one rebound shy of the mark near the end of a 125-110 win against the Charlotte Hornets at the Toyota Center, and was in perfect position after Miles Bridges missed a 3-pointer with just 26 seconds left in the game.

Yet as he was about to pick up his 10th rebound of the night, teammate Austin Rivers came out of nowhere and picked it off for himself.

It only took a few steps for Rivers to realize what he’d done.

It doesn’t really matter in the end. The Rockets still picked up a 15-point win, their third straight. Harden had an outstanding night, too, finishing with 40 points and 12 assists to go with his nine rebounds while shooting 11-of-26 from the field. And, after all, it’s just a triple-double. Harden already has two this season, and 44 in his career.

A triple-double on Tuesday, however, would’ve been the perfect way to close out the blowout win.

If only Rivers hadn’t gotten in the way.
