$A higher on Japan stimulus news

The Australian dollar has opened higher, after Japan's central bank said it would expand its monetary stimulus program, raising growth prospects.

At 0630 AEDT on Wednesday, the Australian dollar was at 105.66 US cents, up from Tuesday's local close of 105.55 US cents.

The Bank of Japan concluded its two-day policy meeting on Tuesday, announcing an inflation target of two per cent, together with plans for an open-asset purchasing program.

The Australian dollar responded immediately, rising about half a US cent following the news.
