Here's how Netflix ranked Australia's NBN providers for streaming time performance in June
Australia has had a lot to say about Netflix and the NBN lately, but what does Netflix have to say about the NBN?
Every month, Netflix releases a speed index report comparing prime time streaming performance across some of Australia's largest internet providers.
Rather than looking at overall internet speeds, the leaderboard specifically casts an eye over how well these telcos do when it comes bingeing Netflix during the busiest hours of the day.
However, it still does a a pretty good proxy for finding out which providers are doing a good job overall.
Netflix has just dropped its results for June, but before we take a look at the data, it's worth pointing out that some providers have separate rankings for NBN performance and non-NBN performance. Other telcos have their NBN and ADSL speeds aggregated into a single result.

NBN 100 plans with unlimited data

Telstra doesn't have an NBN 100 plan in its standard range, so we’ve included a separate table with its NBN 50 option instead. To get NBN 100 speeds on Telstra, you’ll need to sign up for an NBN 50 plan and bolt on a speed boost for an extra $30 per month.
That means you'd be spending a minimum of $120 per month to get an NBN 100 plan on Telstra.
For comparison, Aussie Broadband, which ranks just behind Telstra in the latest Netflix Speed Index, will charge you $99 per month. Telstra is about 2.5% faster when it comes to Netflix, but it's top-tier plans are about 20% more expensive.
If price is your main consideration, MyRepublic has the cheapest NBN 100 plan out of this lot thanks to a promo. You'll pay $79.95 per month for the first 12 months, and $89.95 per month thereafter.
The plan has no contract, so you can leave whenever you want. This offer is available until July 21. There's a 14.8% difference in Netflix speeds between the MyRepublic NBN and Telstra NBN, but a 50% difference in price.

When it comes to NBN 50 plans, Exetel has one of the cheapest options around at $59.99 per month, which is $30 per month cheaper than what you'll pay on Telstra. Telstra's Netflix performance is 5.8% faster, but that will cost you a 50% premium.
It's worth mentioning that Exetel's plan requires you to commit to a 12-month contract. Telstra's plan is contract-free, but you'll need to pay out the pro-rated value of your modem ($216) if you leave within the first 24 months.
TPG's NBN 50 plan also comes in on the cheaper side at $69.99 per month. While TPG comes in at #5 on the Netflix leaderboard, the ACCC has consistently found TPG to be the fastest NBN provider across the last couple of quarters of its Measuring Broadband speed test program.
You've got the choice of signing an 18-month contract here or paying $99.95 upfront to avoid getting locked in. Telstra's Netflix index-topping speeds are about 5.5% faster compared to TPG, but that privilege will cost you an extra 28%.
