Here’s an alternative way to deal your with financial stress
More than one in two Aussies say they’re stressed about their finances, according to the Financial Fitness whitepaper.
While, the consequences of financial stress can have devastating, even fatal, consequences, it’s also pushing financial counsellors to the limit.
In a bid to help Aussies combat the pressure of financial stress, meditation app Headspace has released a collection of meditations called “Money on your Mind” that will feature for the whole month of April.

While it can seem like the hardest thing to “look at our financial stress in the eye, stay present, and deal with it”, we can look at our situation through the lens of mindfulness, Headspace wrote on their website.
“Meditation cannot make us wealthy or dissolve our debts, but it can bring an awareness that helps us reframe our approach to finances, and therefore, ease the strain,” said Headspace’s website.
“When we cannot change the reality of a situation, we instead change our perspective; in changing our perspective, we change our relationship with something, and that’s a powerful shift when it comes to money.”
In total, Headspace has twelve meditations of varying lengths to combat financial stress, categorised into three areas:
‘Check your balance’ aims to help you step back and put you back in the right frame of mind.
‘Emotionally overdrawn’ meditations are designed to ease the burden of your emotions and move through your day more clearly.
‘Treat yourself’ is intended to guide you to look after yourself, and your mind.
The meditation courses will help the user gain clarity on what to reprioritise, how to respond rather than react, how to find motivation, or take a break.
The app shares the same name as headspace, the Australian not-for-profit mental health youth organisation established by the government.
