Hege Riise: Interim England women coach to take charge of Team GB at Tokyo Olympics

England Women’s interim head coach Hege Riise is set to be named as Team GB manager for this summer’s Olympics.

The 51-year-old Norwegian will lead the team at the delayed Tokyo Games and an announcement is expected tomorrow to confirm her appointment.

Riise has been in interim charge of England since January, after Phil Neville left to take charge of David Beckham’s Inter Miami in the MLS. She will lead England alongside Team GB until September, when Holland manager Sarina Wiegman will take over on a full-time basis.

Team GB qualified for the Olympics by virtue of England’s run to the semi-finals of the 2019 World Cup and they will be targeting a medal in Tokyo.

Riise, who won the World Cup and Olympic gold as a player with Norway, will hold the first Team GB training camp in June.

In her first game in charge of England, she oversaw a 6-0 win over Northern Ireland in a friendly at St George’s Park in February.
