Heavy traffic warning as miner moves equipment

Top End motorists are being warned to expect traffic delays on the Stuart and Kakadu Highways this weekend as large pieces of equipment are moved to the Ranger uranium mine.

The mine operator, Energy Resources of Australia, says a convoy of vehicles carrying parts of the mine's new $220 million brine concentrator will take two days to travel from Darwin's East Arm Port to Jabiru, which is located within the boundaries of Kakadu National Park.

The vehicles carrying the equipment are expected to travel the 260 kilometre journey at about 30 kilometres an hour, taking two days to get to Jabiru.

The traffic disruptions are expected to continue over the next three weekends.
