Heartbreaking story behind 'one of the worst' dog injuries
WARNING - DISTRESSING CONTENT: A dog with a disfigured face is being cared for with his injuries “one of the worst” RSPCA inspectors have seen.
Fig wandered into a yard in Painscastle, Wales, “covered in mud and extremely thirsty” last week with “horrendous injuries”.
RSPCA Wales believes Fig was a victim of badger baiting. Badger baiting involves finding badgers in their holes and killing them.
Sometimes dogs are sent down setts, the dens badgers live in, to either attack or remove them. It can lead to badgers and dogs suffering serious injuries.
It’s illegal in the UK.
“Our inspector said his injuries were ‘one of the worst’ he had seen in his 20-plus years with the RSPCA,” RSPCA said.
“He is the friendliest dog going and we really hope he is going to be okay.”
The RSPCA called Fig’s case “heartbreaking”. His wounds are being looked after and he’s receiving some tender love and care.
On Facebook, people were distressed over Fig’s injuries.
“People are so irresponsible and disgusting,” one woman wrote.
Another woman questioned how Fig was still alive given his injuries adding “you can’t even tell what dog it is”.
“I can’t imagine the pain he had to live through to heal,” she wrote.
