Hanukkah cookies that are gorgeous and tasty

With the holidays come cookies, and Hanukkah is no exception. Bakers all over TikTok have been upping their cookie game with a variety of Hanukkah-themed delights. From rugelach to dreidel-shaped sugar cookies, there’s a treat for all eight nights of Hanukkah. If you’re looking to impress in the dessert department this year, here are five recipes for Hanukkah cookies that are as delicious as they are beautiful.

Decode and demystify Gen Z's latest online slang terms with In The Know's new glossary.

1. Blue and white marbled Star of David cookies

This cookie design is an abstract take on Hanukkah’s traditional blue and white color scheme. TikToker @jakecohen creates the icing with a white base before adding drops of blue icing. Next, he makes blue and white swirls in the icing using a stick or thin object. Finally, he dips a star-shaped cookie face down into the icing. The finished product is a psychedelic-looking Star of David.

2. Dreidel sugar cookies

Forget clay, the best dreidels are made out of sugar cookies! After cutting the dough into dreidel shapes and baking them, TikToker @the_chubbiest_cupcake decorates each cookie with white icing on the top and bottom, and blue icing in the middle. She then uses a piping bag filled with more blue icing to hypnotically create swirls for each cookie’s border. To complete the dreidel, she paints a Hebrew letter on each cookie’s center.

3. Menorah cookies

This cookie goes big on small details. TikToker @belladolcebakery begins decorating this menorah-shaped sugar cookie by outlining the borders and filling the cookie’s middle with white icing. They then use a needle to spread the icing over the edges of the cookie. Then, using a piping bag with blue icing, they fill in the menorah’s base and the eight candles. They finish by using yellow icing to make the candles, before using a needle to create a flickering flame at the end of each candle.

4. Chewy Hanukkah gelt cookies

Chocolate gelt is a fun Hanukkah staple, and this cookie takes it to the next level! Begin by making the dough from beaten butter, milk and eggs combined with flour, cornstarch, baking soda and brown sugar. After mixing, add bits of Hanukkah gelt (chocolate coins wrapped in gold paper) to the mix along with blue sprinkles and blue Sixlet candies. Place the dough on a tray lined with parchment paper before baking. Enjoy!

5. Cranberry pistachio rugelach

It wouldn’t feel like Hanukkah without rugelach. This recipe involves a dough made from flour, butter, cream cheese and salt, with a cranberry spread made from blended cranberries, pistachios, sugar and cinnamon. Slice the dough and roll it into crescent shapes before baking. Once the rugelach is out of the oven, sprinkle on powdered sugar or drizzle on a glaze made from powdered sugar, vanilla and water.
