New group tackles freight woes

The group tackling Tasmania's freight problems has met for the first time.

The 19 members will advise the Federal and State Governments on ways to build long-term freight strategies for the state.

Tasmanian infrastructure minister David O'Byrne says the group represents key industry stakeholders and academics.

"Nothing is off the table, any idea or issue will be considered by this group," he said.

"But what this group will do is really put it through the ringer in terms of evidence base and what is the best on a priorities list of what we can do as State and Federal Governments to drive efficiencies on island, but also to make it easier for exports to get off the island."
