Great news for Nufarm Limited (ASX:NUF): Insiders acquired stock in large numbers last year

Usually, when one insider buys stock, it might not be a monumental event. But when multiple insiders are buying like they did in the case of Nufarm Limited (ASX:NUF), that sends out a positive message to the company's shareholders.

Although we don't think shareholders should simply follow insider transactions, we do think it is perfectly logical to keep tabs on what insiders are doing.

Check out our latest analysis for Nufarm

Nufarm Insider Transactions Over The Last Year

Over the last year, we can see that the biggest insider purchase was by MD, CEO & Executive Director Gregory Hunt for AU$138k worth of shares, at about AU$5.51 per share. That means that an insider was happy to buy shares at around the current price of AU$6.07. While their view may have changed since the purchase was made, this does at least suggest they have had confidence in the company's future. If someone buys shares at well below current prices, it's a good sign on balance, but keep in mind they may no longer see value. In this case we're pleased to report that the insider purchases were made at close to current prices.

Does Nufarm Boast High Insider Ownership?

I like to look at how many shares insiders own in a company, to help inform my view of how aligned they are with insiders. A high insider ownership often makes company leadership more mindful of shareholder interests. Our data indicates that Nufarm insiders own about AU$9.3m worth of shares (which is 0.4% of the company). Overall, this level of ownership isn't that impressive, but it's certainly better than nothing!

So What Does This Data Suggest About Nufarm Insiders?

The fact that there have been no Nufarm insider transactions recently certainly doesn't bother us. However, our analysis of transactions over the last year is heartening. The transactions are fine but it'd be more encouraging if Nufarm insiders bought more shares in the company.
