Glossier fans are proven lovers of the brand’s makeup, but its skin care line just got an upgrade. The new Glossier retinol is here.

Retinol is one of those trending products in skin care right now, and for good reason. Retinols are great because they can help improve your skin’s texture and tone. However, it’s not a quick fix but rather a slow burn for achieving your skin care goals. Dr. Ewoma Ukeleghe, an award-winning medical and cosmetic doctor who worked with Glossier to launch the Universal Pro-Retinol, unpacked a few different myths about retinoids on her Instagram page. One key factor she mentions is that retinol beginners should start with a low strength.

“Start with the lowest strength,” she says. “Then, over time, weeks, months, years later, gradually increase your strength.”

Lucky for you, this Universal Pro-Retinol uses 0.5% Retinyl Sunflowerate, a derivative of retinol that also contains sunflower seed fatty acids. Plus, as Dr. Ukeleghe notes, you can see improvements on fine lines, dark spots, texture and blemishes over time. Additionally, the Universal Pro-Retinol features supportive ingredients like stevia extract to address fine lines specifically, as well as mondo grass root extract to hold in moisture.

Glossier Universal Pro-Retinol Review

I’ve tried my fair share of retinol (with and without knowing how to use it). Luckily, this Glossier retinol is great for beginners. Whipped and creamy, applying this to your skin is like butter on bread. I used it once a week for two weeks and made sure to apply sunscreen, per the directions. The retinol goes on smooth and doesn’t leave a white cast, and it’s gentle enough for those with sensitive skin. Although I’ve only tried the product less than a handful of times, it hasn’t irritated my skin, and I feel confident using it more consistently.

For those who have never tried retinol but want to start, this is great for beginners. It slides onto the skin, doesn’t feel irritating and blends perfectly with the rest of my routine.
