New gas plant provides community benefits to NW

The builders of a new domestic gas plant in the North West will provide infrastructure benefits to the local community as part of a State Government agreement.

BHP Billiton and Apache are jointly developing the $1.5 billion Macedon gas project on the Ashburton Industrial Area in Onslow.

The government has sealed a 25 year agreement, guaranteeing that the joint venture will spend $5 million on community infrastructure projects.

They are also required to use WA based worked and services where possible.

Construction on the project started in 2011 and will become WA's fourth domestic gas plant.
