Big, chunky earrings have been trending for a minute, but no one seems to be talking about how uncomfortable these massive pieces of jewelry can be. Luckily, there’s a simple trick to lighten the load on your lobes.

In the latest episode of Pretty Beautiful, video producer Lisa Azcona tries a hack to make heavy, uncomfortable earrings more wearable. The secret? Fashion tape. Yes, that same tape you use to avoid wardrobe malfunctions is apparently perfect for weighty earrings.

“To tell you the truth, I have an unhealthy obsession with earrings so if this works on my heaviest earrings, it’s going to change the game for me,” Lisa says.

To test the hack, Lisa picks out her heaviest earrings from her extensive (and enviable) earring collection. First, she takes a piece of fashion tape and folds it several times on itself to create a small square shape.

“You want it to be small enough to hide behind your ears where your piercings are,” she specifies.

After the tape is folded perfectly, she punctures the tape in the center with a sharp pair of eyebrow scissors. Then, Lisa places the tape behind her earlobe, lining up the hole in the tape with the hole in her ear. Then, she simply puts on her earrings like she normally would.

“The difference is really noticeable,” Lisa says of the results. “The earrings don’t feel completely weightless, but they feel so much more comfortable on my ears.”

She adds, “The fashion tape definitely helps stop a lot of the pulling I was feeling initially because the earrings were so heavy. My earrings feel so much more secure, and they don’t feel like they are going to fall off anymore. The tape sort of holds the earrings up, if that makes sense.”
