Game between Missouri and LSU moved to Columbia from Baton Rouge due to Hurricane Delta

Missouri and LSU will be playing in Columbia instead of Baton Rouge.

Saturday’s game scheduled at No. 17 LSU will be played at Missouri instead because of Hurricane Delta. The hurricane is currently projected to make landfall on the Louisiana coast on Friday.

The game was originally scheduled to start at 9 p.m. ET on ESPN. It’s been moved up to a Noon kickoff, with a television network yet to be announced.

"Due to the pending impact of Hurricane Delta on Louisiana and the surrounding area, it is in the best interest for the safety of everyone involved to move the game to Columbia," SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey said in a statement. "It was critical to relocate the game to an SEC campus where SEC COVID-19 management protocols are in place and readily applied. I appreciate the cooperation of the schools who are working closely to make the appropriate operational adjustments in order to prioritize the health and safety of our student-athletes while accommodating this change in the schedule."

Per the National Hurricane Center, Hurricane Delta could bring life-threatening storm surge to the Gulf Coast. The hurricane is projected to hit Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula before heading west and turning north.

This marks the third time in the past five years that an LSU game has been moved because of a hurricane. The Tigers’ game against Florida was rescheduled for November in 2016 because of Hurricane Matthew and Hurricane Harvey moved LSU’s game against BYU from Houston to New Orleans in 2017.

The move of the game will mean that LSU is visiting Mizzou for the first time. The Tigers from Columbia have previously played in Baton Rouge but LSU had never made a trip to Columbia.

LSU and Missouri weren’t originally scheduled to play each other in 2020. But the game was added to the schedule when the SEC said that every team would play 10 games. LSU got Missouri and Vanderbilt added to its schedule while Mizzou also had Alabama put on its slate.
