NSW seniors will be able to get a discount on their fuel, as part of a new cost-of-living measure announced by the state government.

Under a deal with United petroleum, NSW Seniors Card and Senior Savers Card members will be eligible for a 4 cents per litre discount when filling up at participating United service stations.

The discount will benefit around 1.9 million seniors card holders, with NSW permanent residents over the age of 60 able to sign up for the cards.

Minister for Seniors Jodie Harrison said the cost of living could be a challenge for older Aussies and every dollar counted.

“This brand new discount has been added to the wealth of Seniors Card savings to help keep more money in seniors’ pockets and ease price pressure at the pump,” Harrison said.

“We want our Seniors Card and Senior Savers Card holders to get the best possible benefits, discounts, and special offers, and we’re excited to launch the program’s first fuel discount with United Petroleum, an Australian-owned business offering discounts to members at the bowser.”

The scheme differs from the regional seniors travel card, which was suspended last month, where $250 was pre-loaded onto a Visa card that could be used for travel related expenses, including fuel, taxi trips, trains and coach services.

How to get the discount

NSW Seniors Card and Senior Savers Card members need to sign up for a United digital or plastic fuel discount card online to get the 4 cents per litre savings.

If seniors choose the digital card, this can be used straight away. If they choose the plastic card, this will be delivered within 5 to 15 business days.

Members then need to show and scan the United fuel discount at the time of purchase at participating United service stations.

The discount can be used once a day for a purchase of a maximum of 150 litres of fuel.
