French man runs full marathon on 23-foot balcony amid coronavirus lockdown

France, like many other countries around the world, has locked its citizens down to help curb the spread of COVID-19.

Being stuck at home, however, didn’t stop one avid runner from doing what he loves.

Elisha Nochomovitz ran a full marathon — all 26.2 miles of it — on his just 23-foot long balcony, according to CNN.

Nochomovitz, a furloughed restaurant worker who lives just outside of Toulouse in southern France, has run 36 marathons in his lifetime. He was set to run one in Barcelona last week, though it was canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic.

So instead, Nochomovitz ran roughly 3,000 laps back and forth on the 23-foot balcony to hit the marathon mark. And, with the help of his girlfriend who fed him M&M’s and Coca Cola while he ran, the 32-year-old accomplished the feat in just six hours and 48 minutes — a time that shattered his previous personal record.

“My only pleasure is running, no matter what the time,” Nochomovitz said, via CNN.

France, according to CNN, closed all non-essential businesses on March 14, closed its borders just days later and banned all gatherings across the country in an effort to curb the spread of the coronavirus. There were more than 19,800 cases and 860 deaths in France alone as of Tuesday, according to the New York Times. They had the fourth-most cases in Europe, behind Germany, Spain and Italy, respectively.
