San Francisco Giants Cy Young winner Mike McCormick died Saturday. He was 81.
McCormick died in his home in North Carolina after a lengthy battle with Parkinson’s disease. The Giants paid tribute to McCormick on Twitter, calling McCormick a “forever Giant.”

McCormick spent 11 of his 17 seasons in the majors with the Giants. He posted a 3.68 ERA over 1,822 2/3 innings with the team. McCormick’s finest season with the club came in 1967, when he put up a 2.85 ERA over 262 1/3 innings and took home the Cy Young award. McCormick is one of two Giants pitchers to win the award. Tim Lincecum, who won the Cy Young in both 2008 and 2009, is the other.
McCormick spent time with four other franchises over his career, including the Baltimore Orioles, Kansas City Royals, New York Yankees and Washington Senators. McCormick was also a member of the New York Giants before the team moved to San Francisco after the 1957 season.
McCormick is enshrined on the Giants’ Wall of Fame.
