Flybuys’ major change for Kmart, Target, Bunnings and Officeworks shoppers

Flybuys has announced a new partnership for savvy shoppers, but is it worth it?

Aussie shoppers can now earn five times the Flybuys points when shopping at Kmart, Target, Bunnings, Officeworks and more - but there’s a catch.

Shoppers who sign up to OnePass with a linked Flybuys account can collect the extra points when shopping in-store at the retail giants.

That means that, on the average purchase of $50, shoppers will be able to collect 250 Flybuys points in total.

The catch? It’ll cost you. OnePass currently offers a free 30-day trial. After that, it charges $4 a month or $40 a year for a membership.

Along with the ability to earn 5x times points, other OnePass membership perks include free delivery on eligible items or orders, 365-day change-of-mind returns, and express Click and Collect.

Is it worth it?

Whether a OnePass membership is worth the price for Flybuys points collectors will depend on how much you normally spend at partnership stores and what you plan to redeem your points for.

If you convert your Flybuys points to Flybuys dollars, the conversion rate is currently 2,000 Flybuys points for $10, which can be used as money off your next shop.

That works out to 200 Flybuys points being worth $1. So, if you wanted to get the value of your OnePass membership back, you’d need to earn at least 800 Flybuys points a month, or 8,000 a year.

This works out to spending about $160 a month, or $1,600 a year, for members earning 5 Flybuys points per $1 spent.

It’s worth noting there are other ways to redeem your Flybuys points, including through the Flybuys Rewards store, converting them into Velocity points (1,000 Flybuys points = 500 Velocity points) and Flybuys Travel.
