Florida TE Kyle Pitts declares for NFL draft, will not play in bowl game

The nation’s top tight end is moving on to the NFL.

On Sunday morning, Florida tight end Kyle Pitts announced that he will enter the NFL draft. Pitts will not play in UF’s upcoming bowl game.

“After much prayer and consideration and speaking with my family, I will forego my senior season and enter the 2021 NFL draft and will not be playing in the bowl game,” Pitts said. “I am eager to pursue my dreams of playing in the NFL, but I will always be a Gator.”

Pitts’ announcement comes the morning after Florida lost 52-46 to Alabama in the SEC title game. Pitts caught seven passes for 129 yards and a touchdown in the loss. For the season, Pitts registered 43 catches for 770 yards and 12 touchdowns in just eight games.

Pitts started the season on a tear, accumulating six touchdown catches in UF’s first two games, including a four-TD effort against Ole Miss. Later in the year, he had three touchdown grabs against Kentucky.

Pitts’ stellar junior year came on the heels of a breakout sophomore campaign in which he established himself as one of the top players at his position in the country. In 2019, Pitts had 54 catches for 649 and five scores.

The 6-foot-6, 246-pound Pitts projects as a surefire first-round pick.
