Fishbowl offers $5 bowls delivered to you this week

The team told Yahoo Finance of the chain's humble beginnings, and now you can cash in on one of their most popular dishes.

They say there’s no such thing as a free lunch, but a $5 one isn’t bad in the cost-of-living crisis and Fishbowl is currently offering discounted O.G bowls to be delivered to your door.

The offer - which will last until Sunday February 25, is valid in all New South Wales, Victoria and Queensland stores if ordered through the delivery service, DoorDash.

A regular bowl would normally set you back $15.90 for a protein of either salmon sashimi, chicken or tofu mixed with edamame, beets, seaweed salad, red onion, tobiko and crispy shallots, topped with a roasted sesame dressing. And you can upgrade to a large, normally $18.90 for just $3.

The Japanese-style healthy fast food chain champions “fresh, delicious, healthy and ethically sourced” ingredients burst on to the scene in 2016 and now has about 45 different stores up and down the east coast.

Co-founder Nic Pestalozzi said the offer was made with gratitude as another opens in Sydney’s Phillip Street.

“We wanted to thank customers for all the support and mark the milestones with the bowl that started it all, The OG,” Pestalozzi said in a statement.

The chain is also going international, opening a US store in New York, under the rebranded name Thisbowl.

Co-founder Nathan Dalah told Yahoo Finance the chain came from small beginnings in a 30-square metre space in Bondi to 14 restaurants across Sydney and Melbourne in the span of three years, – and it all started with a trip to the US.

“I came back and thought to myself: ‘how can I apply some of my own values to what I thought was working over there?’ And we had this idea to incorporate the flavours people know and love from Japanese food and cuisine into a salad bar," he said.

He thought Bondi was the location to open using savings from his previous mobile boat-cleaning business and other work, Dalah put $150,000 towards his first Fishbowl restaurant.

That, combined with a contribution from the landlords to his first space, helped them open the doors.

“We opened in the middle of July in Bondi, which is the middle of winter. But, we were like, if we can make it work in winter, well then summer will just be a bonus.”

If you’re a big fan, but struggling with cost-of-living pressures, you will be pleased to know there’s another deal to slash the price of your meal.

Cutomers can do a five-kilometre run and record it on the fitness app Strava to get $5 off your order once its linked in the Fishbowl app.

"We're essentially paying customers to move and feel better about themselves,” Pestalozzi said.

This deal runs for six weeks until the 24th of March, but is only valid on Monday and Tuesday.
