Fantasy Basketball: Top waiver wire adds ahead of All-Star game

We know how important it is to use the waiver wire to your advantage in fantasy basketball. Yet, so many people don’t realise how many gems are around to be added to their squads.

I’m here again to highlight some exciting inclusions for your squads to lead you to glory.

Under 70% Rostered (10 Team League Targets)

Delon Wright - He’s out at the moment, sure. But, Wright is too good to be leaving on the wire, even if it’s only going to be useful for maybe another month.

His value will likely fall a little when Killian Hayes returns, but he can also just slide across to SG and take minutes from Wayne Ellington and Svi Mykhailiuk.

So, while we won’t see Wright until after the All-Star break, that’s just two days away, so making moves on injured players now is the right way to go.

Josh Jackson - Wright’s teammate, Josh Jackson, is coming off the bench.

But, he’s averaging 25 fantasy points per game, and he is someone the Pistons want to try and develop, ahead of Ellington and even Mykhailiuk.

So, I don’t think he is really in danger of losing minutes, and his game is suited to default leagues, as his poor shooting doesn’t incur a penalty.

Jakob Poeltl - Poeltl is the Spurs’ starting centre, amazingly enough, even with LaMarcus Aldridge back.

I’m not sure if that will remain the case, but Poeltl is definitely their future and could easily be that five man of the present too. Yet, he is around in a lot of leagues.

His low free throw percentage doesn’t impact points leagues, so Poeltl is someone to grab and then figure it out later when Gregg Popovich makes his decisions.

Under 50% Rostered (12 Team League Targets)

Cole Anthony - Like Wright, Anthony is currently injured.

But he should return right after the break and I highly doubt the flailing Magic will persist with Michael Carter-Williams as their starting point guard for very long.

Anthony was finding his groove before the rib injury, and I think he will be a strong option down the line.

Robert Williams III - The Celtics seem to realise that Tristan Thompson isn’t the answer and if they want a difference-maker at centre it’s going to have to be the Rock DJ, Robert Williams.

His minutes will be frustrating, but they are currently pushing up. If you wait much longer, you miss out on a top 60 type player.

Saddiq Bey - Bey isn’t going anywhere. He will start, unless injured, for the Pistons for the remainder of the season and should continue to improve.

His shooting is already great, but he needs to bring some more in other areas, but even so, he is still averaging 24 fantasy points in the last two weeks.

Under 30% Rostered (14 Team League Targets)

Hamidou Diallo - Diallo is already averaging 24 fantasy points per game, and I guess people have dropped him because he has missed two games due to a groin injury.

Yes, George Hill has to return, but Diallo will still have his role.

Hill is not someone I expect to end the season in OKC, so Diallo should be rock solid as a 14 team guy.

Cody Zeller - Zeller is far from exciting. But, he is available in 78 per cent of leagues and as a starting centre, albeit a currently injured one, I would be looking to see if he can help my team.

Again, not exciting and low upside, but in a deeper league a player like Zeller can be useful.

De’Anthony Melton - When the Grizzlies were healthy, Melton was inexplicably out of the rotation.

But then Grayson Allen suffered a concussion, and Melton has looked exactly like the player he already was. Surely, Taylor Jenkins doesn’t banish him out of the rotation, and I won’t take the risk of him blowing up and not grabbing him off the wire.

Short Term Adds

Justin Patton - Patton is the Rockets’ starting centre until Christian Wood returns. Now, Houston’s last game before the break was Thursday, so he may not start a game again.

But, Wood is no guarantee to be in for big minutes when play resumes Friday, March 12th. So, it may be one or two games, but Patton can be a stream option.

Justin Holiday - Holiday is still under rostered. Yes, Caris LeVert could be returning soon (if he is available, add him), but TJ Warren could be out for a while still, keeping Holiday in a strong enough role to be useful.

Dennis Smith Jr. - Delon Wright could be back after the All-Star break and Smith’s value will disappear when Killian Hayes returns.

However, Smith may still have some value, at least for Friday’s game against the Knicks. After that, his value will dip, but getting an excellent game is useful.
