Families, pensioners may get budget bonus

Pensioners and some families could receive one-off cash payments from the federal government as a pre-election sweetener reportedly being considered by the coalition.

Senior advisors are looking at two one-off payments that could be included in the April 2 budget and distributed before the federal election, which is due by May, The Australian Financial Review reported on Thursday.

The payments idea, which would be aimed at those who miss out on previously legislated tax cuts, and has been floating around since December, the AFR said.
