Ezekiel Elliott says he feels 'normal' after battle with coronavirus, has concerns about player safety

Dallas Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott says he’s recovering well from the coronavirus. Elliott admitted he had a couple rough days, but feels “good” now.

“I feel good, I feel normal. I still can’t work out,” Elliott said.

Elliott made those comments during an interview with Jori Epstein of USA Today. Elliott, 24, said he dealt with a cough and shortness of breath.

Elliott also expressed concern over the safety of other NFL players. He mentioned that even though he was OK, other players have children, or might be living with people who have medical conditions. Elliott said he wants to have an NFL season in 2020, but noted that the league has to handle player and team safety properly.

“I just feel like there’s a lot of moving parts that have to be figured out,” Elliott said. “I just don’t know how they can keep the players healthy. You’ve got to put the health of the players first. And it’s not even so much I would say the players’ health because I got corona and it didn’t really affect me much. But a lot of people have kids, they may have kids with asthma, their parents or grandparents may live with them.

“We have to find a way to make sure the players and their families, and the coaches also and their families, aren’t put at risk.”

The NFL intends to hold the 2020 season as usual despite the threat of spreading the coronavirus. The league will likely have to adhere to strict guidelines in order to actually play games. NFL training camps are expected to start in July.

Elliott is the biggest name in the NFL to reveal a positive test, and he was angry the information leaked to the media. Elliott’s positive test became public knowledge in mid-June, so he would presumably be ready for Cowboys’ training camp as long as he tests negative for the virus.
