A retired Gold Coast contractor says everyone in the construction industry will be happy that the Queensland Government intends to overhaul the Building Services Authority.
The Government says it is repairing the building regulator after scores of complaints from the industry and community concern about the way it works.
It has appointed a four-member panel to consider recommendations before implementing them.
Retired contractor Bob Couper says he lost $300,000 in a dispute with a developer and the BSA did nothing about it.
"It should go a lot further and clean the place out and start again," he said.
"We dealt with the BSA for two-and-a-half years over a rort developers and builders can use to keep your money and they choose to do nothing when you give them the evidence of what happened."
