Influencer defends Coachella outfit that looked 'contagious': 'It’s giving sea anemone'

A fashion influencer didn’t exactly make this year’s best-dressed list at Coachella after she showed up dressed like an “antigen.”

Bitcoin vs. gold: Which is the better inflation hedge?

With over 1.2 million followers, TikToker Kate Bartlett, a New York Fashion Institute of Technology student, usually has no trouble convincing people she has great taste. The content creator recently celebrated a major milestone. Last year, she worked two minimum wage jobs to get by, but this April, she was doing “TikTok full-time and packing to go to Coachella” with her “dream brands.”

Watch this bland Brooklyn bedroom become a mid-century modern escape in just one day:

Needless to say, Coachella was a pretty big deal for Bartlett. Unfortunately, not everyone was exactly vibing with one of her looks.

“When you thought your Coachella outfit was cute but everyone thinks you look like a COVID-19 antigen,” she said in a video caption.

She wore a matching two-piece ensemble featuring a tube top and high-waisted pants. The base of the pieces was lavender. But both the pants and top featured big, chunky pieces of yarn-like red fringe. What would have just been a bold, playful look a few years ago was no match for the novel coronavirus today. COVID-19 is known for its red spiky proteins.

Bartlett certainly found herself in a “who wore it best?” moment to anyone familiar with the virus. The fashionista did, however, have a sense of humor about it.

“I still think it’s fun, OK?” she said of her look in the caption.

The polarizing outfit racked up 4.4 million views on TikTok.

“It’s giving sea anemone,” someone joked.

“Hope you’re contagious then because I want that outfit,” another said.

“I think you look cute and like a COVID-19 antigen. A cute COVID-19 antigen,” a person commented.
