Ericsson, Ozone to Offer Small Cell Wi-Fi Infrastructure in India

Wireless equipment company Ericsson ERIC, in partnership with India-based premium Wi-Fi service provider Ozone, will offer “Small Cell as a Service carrier-grade Wi-Fi network” for Reliance Communications. Leveraging on Ericsson’s competence, Internet and telecommunications company Reliance is pioneering the deployment of advanced Small Cell Wi-Fi infrastructure.

While Ericsson will be in charge of managing Small Cell as a Service Wi-Fi network, Ozone will look into additional utilization and monetization of Reliance’s existing network. The company’s Small Cell as a Service offering provides state-of-the-art small cell technology, designs, and plans for a customer’s networks and helps in optimizing its performance through long-term as-a-Service contracts.

Deploying Ericsson's Small Cell as a Service network will further empower Reliance to tap on the existing Ericsson/Ozone Wi-Fi infrastructure to introduce advanced Wi-Fi services that offers superior quality end-user experience. Other benefits to Reliance will include faster go-to-market approach, capability to improve performance ultra-dense environments and reap benefits of Ericsson’s strong market presence.

Ericsson’s recent managed services agreement with Reliance reflects the company’s long-term vision of proving neutral and shared Wi-Fi infrastructure in the rapidly growing Indian economy. The company’s Small Cell as a Service model has garnered a solid reputation among operators and Reliance, like others, is also deploying Ericsson’s competence to unlock fresh sources of revenues and obtain optimal cost structure when venturing into new markets.

As operators around the world continue to invest in telecom core networks for deployment of new service offerings such as Voice over LTE, Ericsson stands to benefit significantly from it. In fourth-quarter 2015, Ericsson inked deals with leading telecom operators like Swisscom and Ooredoo for 4G/LTE deployment. Particularly, the company is enthusiastic about the performance of its business in emerging countries like India, Indonesia and Mexico, and investments pertaining to the transition from 3G to 4G in Europe are positives. Ericsson expects LTE subscriptions to reach 3.7 billion by 2020.

Ericsson currently has a Zacks Rank #3 (Hold). Better-ranked stocks in the industry include ARC Group Worldwide, Inc. ARCW, Sonus Networks, Inc. SONS and Polycom, Inc. PLCM. All the three stocks carry a Zacks Rank #2 (Buy).
