With EPS Growth And More, Kingfisher (LON:KGF) Is Interesting

Some have more dollars than sense, they say, so even companies that have no revenue, no profit, and a record of falling short, can easily find investors. And in their study titled Who Falls Prey to the Wolf of Wall Street?' Leuz et. al. found that it is 'quite common' for investors to lose money by buying into 'pump and dump' schemes.

In the age of tech-stock blue-sky investing, my choice may seem old fashioned; I still prefer profitable companies like Kingfisher (LON:KGF). Now, I'm not saying that the stock is necessarily undervalued today; but I can't shake an appreciation for the profitability of the business itself. In comparison, loss making companies act like a sponge for capital - but unlike such a sponge they do not always produce something when squeezed.

How Fast Is Kingfisher Growing Its Earnings Per Share?

In the last three years Kingfisher's earnings per share took off like a rocket; fast, and from a low base. So the actual rate of growth doesn't tell us much. As a result, I'll zoom in on growth over the last year, instead. Like a falcon taking flight, Kingfisher's EPS soared from UK£0.28 to UK£0.42, over the last year. That's a impressive gain of 50%.

I like to take a look at earnings before interest and (EBIT) tax margins, as well as revenue growth, to get another take on the quality of the company's growth. Kingfisher maintained stable EBIT margins over the last year, all while growing revenue 6.8% to UK£13b. That's a real positive.

Are Kingfisher Insiders Aligned With All Shareholders?

Like that fresh smell in the air when the rains are coming, insider buying fills me with optimistic anticipation. Because oftentimes, the purchase of stock is a sign that the buyer views it as undervalued. However, small purchases are not always indicative of conviction, and insiders don't always get it right.

It's a pleasure to note that insiders spent UK£1.1m buying Kingfisher shares, over the last year, without reporting any share sales whatsoever. As if for a flower bud approaching bloom, I become an expectant observer, anticipating with hope, that something splendid is coming. We also note that it was the Independent Non-Executive Director, Jeffrey Carr, who made the biggest single acquisition, paying UK£519k for shares at about UK£2.60 each.

Does Kingfisher Deserve A Spot On Your Watchlist?

Given my belief that share price follows earnings per share you can easily imagine how I feel about Kingfisher's strong EPS growth. Not only is that growth rate rather juicy, but the insider buying makes my mouth water. So on this analysis I believe Kingfisher is probably worth spending some time on. Even so, be aware that Kingfisher is showing 3 warning signs in our investment analysis , and 1 of those is a bit concerning...

The good news is that Kingfisher is not the only growth stock with insider buying. Here's a list of them... with insider buying in the last three months!
