England 1-0 Croatia LIVE! Sterling goal; Euros result, highlights, latest news and reaction from Southgate

England 1-0 Croatia LIVE! Sterling goal; Euros result, highlights, latest news and reaction from Southgate

England vs Croatia – LIVE!

England have won their opening game at a European Championships for the first time ever after Raheem Sterling’s goal earned a 1-0 triumph over Croatia.

Phil Foden hit the post inside the opening five minutes as England flew out of the traps against the side that had knocked them out of the 2018 World Cup in Russia.

They had to wait until just before the hour-mark for the goal to finally come, though, as Sterling was played in behind by the oustanding Kalvin Phillips and the Manchester City man justified his inclusion by Gareth Southgate with a smart finish.

Southgate had sprung a few surprises with his team selection, including starting Kieran Trippier as a left-back, but he was rewarded with a professional display.
