Real Madrid have confirmed that Eden Hazard has suffered yet another injury problem.

The Belgian forward has been plagued by issues since swapping Chelsea for the Santiago Bernabeu, suffering hamstring, ankle and leg injuries in his first season and missing matches this term through another hamstring complaint, severe bruising and a positive coronavirus test.

He briefly looked to be heading back toward optimum levels of performance recently, scoring against Inter Milan and Huesca, but he departed at the weekend just half an hour into Real’s defeat to Deportivo Alaves.

Now the club have confirmed he has suffered a thigh strain as his latest mishap, having played just 315 minutes this season.

A short statement read:

“Following tests carried out today on our player, Eden Hazard, by Real Madrid Medical Services, he has been diagnosed with an injury in the rectus femoris muscle of his right leg. His recovery will continue to be assessed.”

No timeline has been provided for his return; Real Madrid face Shakhtar Donetsk in the Champions League on Tuesday before key games against Sevilla, Borussia Monchengladbach, Atletico Madrid and Athletic Club - all of which Hazard will miss if he is out for any longer than two weeks.

Real Madrid are the reigning LaLiga champions but sit fourth this season, seven points off leaders Real Sociedad with a game in hand.
