Dyson to build significant new battery plant in Singapore
Dyson's new facility in Tuas, which will span the size of 53 basketball courts, will start operating in 2025.
SINGAPORE – Global technology company Dyson announced on Wednesday (3 May) that it will launch a new plant in Singapore to manufacture next-generation batteries for new products.
The new facility in Tuas, which will span the size of 53 basketball courts, will start operating in 2025 as Dyson ramps up software, artificial intelligence and product development globally.
Dyson has been producing batteries in-house for more than a decade in a bid to pioneer smaller, lighter, more sustainable, and more energy-dense batteries.
"We are focused on developing radically new and innovative Dyson products using science and pioneering technologies. Our advanced manufacturing expansion in Singapore will enable Dyson to bring entirely new battery technology to market," Dyson's chief executive, Roland Krueger, said in a statement.
"Singapore's highly skilled engineers and scientists, and supportive government that embraces Industry 4.0 manufacturing, make it the perfect place for a high-technology company such as Dyson."
The plant is part of Dyson's £2.75 billion (S$4.6 billion) five-year investment plan into future technologies.
It is also part of a S$1.5 billion ongoing investment commitment in Singapore. In March last year, Dyson officially opened its new global headquarters in Singapore. It currently operates a manufacturing facility in Singapore that produces motors and employs a total of about 1,400 staff in the city-state.

Dyson will also open research and development campuses in the Philippines and the UK as part of the newly announced plan.
In the Philippines, Dyson is to invest £166 million for a new plant in Santo Tomas, Batangas, that will focus on software, AI, robotics, fluid dynamics and hardware electronics development. Meanwhile in the UK, the company will build a new technology centre in Bristol with a £100 million investment.
The three new sites will boost the company's engineering and manufacturing capability to bring technology to market more quickly, Dyson said.

Since it was established in 1993, Dyson has been producing a wide array of products, including those for air purification, haircare, lighting, and hand drying.
