Duckwrth shows how men’s fashion is becoming more fluid by hosting a $4,500 Chanel shopping spree

R&B singer and rapper Duckwrth flexed his ultra-cool sound with his Tiny Desk Meets SXSW performance last month. This month, to commemorate his birthday on May 13, he blessed fans with the drop of the certified bop “Birthday Suit” featuring Rayana Jay.

In this episode of In The Know’s Bag Secured, Duckwrth treats himself to a luxury shopping spree at What Goes Around Comes Around in Los Angeles.

The first thing that catches his eye is a $725 Louis Vuitton x Takashi Murakami wallet.

“I remember in the early 2000s, I moved to San Francisco,” Duckwrth says. “I was walking past it — mind you I was in college, I was eating tacos and ramen. I couldn’t afford any of this. That was the first time I saw Louis Vuitton do a white background with like these colored monograms. Then I asked how much it was. Then I left the store immediately.”

He cites a Goyard Brown Goyardine Canvas Saint-Louis PM for $1,950 as a classic and one of his favorite monograms.

“You can’t fail. This will probably be a flex for a long time,” he says.

As he explores the store, he notices a $1,140 Louis Vuitton Borneo Green EPI Leather Keep All.

“This was the first Louis Vuitton bag I ever bought. It was in red, though. But this is beautiful. This green is so sexy,” he remarks.

But then a small $1,740 Louis Vuitton Damier Ebene Looping womenswear handbag captures his attention. He’s not afraid to admit he would rock it.

“I love that menswear is becoming way more fluid,” Duckwrth says. “Women’s collections are way more experimental. So way more expression and freedom and shape and form and color and texture. Men just get black and gray and white. It’s just like so boring.”

He can’t help but praise the visionary behind an “extraordinary” $7,850 Louis Vuitton PVC Prism Keep All.

“Virgil being a Black man, coming into Louis Vuitton just really expanding the brand,” Duckwrths says. “Yeah, I wanted this one, but then it’s like you can’t help but to flex.”

He was of course referring to Virgil Abloh. He became the first Black American to run a French luxury fashion house when he was dubbed artistic director of Louis Vuitton’s menswear collection in 2018.

In the end, Duckwrth decides to splurge on one Chanel green quilted suede handbag mini that ran him $4,500.

“This is perfect. This is perfect. Look how sexy this is,” he exclaims. “If this was a human, it’d be a bad b****. This is stupid. This is just, you’re on another level. This is an expression of art and elegance and elevation. And if you ain’t on my level then you probably [need to] get up out of here.”
