DSW posts revenue beat, Toyota investing in Uber, Papa John’s drama continues

Here’s a look at some of the companies the Yahoo Finance team will be watching for you today.

DSW just reported a huge beat on earnings and revenue for the second quarter. The CEO says a new strategy, plus increased money for marketing, helped boost customer traffic. He projects earnings will top $3B this year, for the first time in company history.

Toyota is making a big bet on driverless cars with Uber. The auto giant is investing about half-a-billion dollars to work jointly with Uber on autonomous vehicles. They plan to integrate self-driving technology into Toyota minivans to start.

Papa John’s is firing back at the latest accusations from its ousted founder. In a letter to franchisees, John Schnatter blamed the current CEO for problems at the company saying “rot at the top” was behind his ouster. The company says Schnatter is trying to “distract from the damaging impact” of his own words. He resigned earlier this year, after using a racial slur on a conference call.

Netflix is adding a new name to its communications office. Rachel Whetstone is joining the streaming giant as its communications chief. She comes from Facebook and was at Google before that. The previous head of communications at Netflix was fired in June for using a racial slur.
