The word 'xyzbca' is taking over TikTok — what does it mean?

In The Know

The “xyzbca” hashtag has been taking over TikTok recently, but most people don’t even know what it means.

What does ‘xyzbca’ mean on TikTok?

Well, nothing — that we know of, anyway.

If you were to search the hashtag right now, you’d see such a mix of videos, it’s hard to tell what it actually means.

For example, the most popular video under the hashtag is this lip-syncing clip from @xinnixinnita5.

It has little-to-nothing in common with one of the other most popular videos — a man reacting to footage of foam being removed from the tops of various drinks.

Why is everyone using the ‘xyzbca’ hashtag?

The only thing these videos have in common is that they all appear on the same hashtag page, and thus share many of the same viewers.

At one point, according to Hashtag Hyena, there was a rumor that tagging the made-up word would boost your views, thus gaining you more followers and likes. The hashtags #foryou and #fyp are meant to do the same thing.

It turned out to be *just* a rumor though — there’s no actual proof this will boost your views. There is a chance it could become a self-fulfilling prophecy, though, as more and more users tap the tag to figure out what it means and dish out views as they do so.

Beautiful, isn’t it?
