TikTokers swear by this doctor-approved hair growth hack: '[My hair] grew 2 inches'

Kim and Kourtney Kardashian also use this hack to keep their hair long and healthy.

TikTokers swear by this doctor-approved hair growth hack: '[My hair] grew 2 inches'

While going to the hairdresser and chopping off your tresses is as easy as booking an appointment, growing out your locks is an entirely different story. In fact, sometimes it feels like the more you want your hair to grow, the more it stays the same length in protest.

Thankfully, a simple hair growth hack is making the rounds on TikTok — and it’s been vetted by doctors and celebrities alike.

Gift ideas for the retro lover:

For this “extreme hair growth” hack, all you need are three common household items: uncooked rice, water and a bowl or container. Simply combine 1 cup of your uncooked rice with 1 cup of water in your container and let it sit for at least 24 hours, then strain the rice and use the rice water in your hair. Make sure to let the rice water sit in your hair for at least 20 minutes to reap the full benefits.

This hair growth trick first gained traction in April when Kourtney Kardashian revealed via her blog Poosh that her sister Kim used rice water to maintain her “luscious strands.” It recently started going viral again on TikTok — and this time, doctors are even weighing in and praising the simple hack.

“Studies back this up,” Dr. Brian Boxer Wachler, a renowned eye surgeon, said about the rice water trick on TikTok. “Apply to scalp for hair growth. [It] can help repair damaged hair too.”

Many TikTokers noted that they’ve seen success with the rice water trick.

The perfect gift for your friend's kids:

“I use the water after I cook rice & keep it for 2 hours only in my hair & it grows really fast,” one person said.

“I did this for a week and when I tell you my hair grew it grew like 2 inches which is amazing,” another added.

So how exactly does rice water help with hair growth? Studies have shown that it’s largely thanks to inositol, which can repair damaged hair and prevent future damage.
