Recently, In The Know producer Phoebe Zaslav came across an “easy trick to keep your closets smelling fresh” courtesy of user Mama Mila, and she decided to test it out for herself.

What really appealed to Phoebe about this DIY deodorizer was its short materials list and seemingly simple assembly process.

“You only need three things [to make this deodorizer],” Phoebe explained. “It [is] so easy.”

Here’s what you’ll need to make your own DIY deodorizer:

Once you have your materials, putting your DIY deodorizer together is actually quite simple. All you have to do is add 1 cup of uncooked rice to your Mason jar and perfume it with 10 drops of the essential oil of your choice. Then, put the lid back on your Mason jar and shake the rice up so the essential oils are nicely distributed.

“This TikTok actually taught me that on its own, rice is a natural deodorizer,” Phoebe said. According to Tip Hero, that’s because it sucks the moisture out of the atmosphere like a dehumidifier.

The original TikTok video suggests putting this DIY deodorizer in your closet, but Phoebe actually put hers in the bathroom. Honestly, you can put yours wherever you’d like — or even make multiple so the entire house smells fresh!
