Oil company Shell says it is increasing the production of diesel at its Geelong refinery after equipment failure contributed to fuel shortages across Victoria.
Diesel supplies have run out at some service stations, while other areas are facing fuel rationing.
The shortage was caused by a combination of storms and equipment problems.
Shell spokesman, Paul Zennaro, says the problem has been fixed and extra shipments of fuel will be arriving this week.
"The refinery is now ramping up production over the next 24 hours," he said.
"We are expecting to see diesel flowing through to services stations and also other customers over the course of this week." Mr Zennaro says they recognise it is a very busy time of year.
"We do have cargos [ships] arriving with extra product over coming days and weeks, just to make sure we have enough fuel for customers," he said.
