Kim Kardashian's bold claims about her daughter's elaborate artwork confirmed as true: 'She is not lying'

Social media erupted on Feb. 9 when Kim Kardashian West shared a photo of artwork she said her 7-year-old daughter, North West, painted.

The problem? People thought it was a little too good. If you don't believe that the offspring of two of the world's most aesthetic-obsessed people — Kim K and Kanye West — could produce something amazing, that's on you. But let's talk about what went down.

“My little artist North,” Kardashian West wrote in her Instagram Story. The Story has since disappeared, but screenshots have appeared all over the internet.

It didn't take long for the backlash to begin as social media users could not fathom that the child was behind such a lovely work of art.

"The fact Kim photoshopped North's signature on this like girl .... she did not paint that," one Twitter user wrote.

Kardashian West came to her daughter's defense in another post.

"Don't play with me when it comes to my children," she said, before explaining that North and her best friend had been working on paintings for "several weeks" in an art class. "As a proud mom, I wanted to share her work with everyone."

So maybe with a lot of time, attention and guidance, a 7-year-old could compose a masterpiece.

TikTok user @camrynfred claimed that her own mother taught kids to paint essentially the same image, and later taught North and her friend the same thing.

"I actually can’t believe right now that I am being put in the position where I am probably one of the only people in the world who has evidence to prove that Kim is not lying, but here you go,” @camerynfred said in a post. "She’s been an art teacher for 30 years and everyone that comes through her classes goes through this exact same painting when they’re starting out."

She included a photo of herself as a child alongside a painting that shared uncanny similarities with North's, as well.

"I knew she wasn't lying, people are just gifted," one user said.

"It's so weird that people don't believe Kim literal KARDASHIAN can't afford to get North the best art teacher," another wrote.

Our verdict? It seems quite likely North really painted the masterpiece, given that her family has nearly unlimited resources and a whole lot of creative talent.

At least the controversy has brought delightful painter Bob Ross back into the cultural conversation, where he belongs.
