Yahoo Finance Daniel Ek reveals Arsenal takeover bid rejected as Kroenke family ‘don’t need the money’
Spotify co-owner Daniel Ek says the Kroenke family has rejected a bid from him to buy Arsenal.
Ek, the Swedish entrepreneur behind the music-streaming service Spotify, first revealed his takeover interest last month after owner Stan Kroenke’s ill-fated attempt to lead Arsenal into a European Super League.
The Super League project collapsed amid fan anger and government opposition, while protests have continued ahead of games at the Emirates - where fans are locked out due to the pandemic.
On Saturday evening, Ek took to Twitter to shoot down “inaccurate reports” that he had not submitted a bid to buy Arsenal from the Kroenkes, though says his offer was rejected as the family told him “they don’t need the money”.
Ek tweeted: “Inaccurate reports emerged today saying I have not made a bif for Arsenal Football Club. I think it’s important to correct the record - this week an offer was made to both Josh Kroenke and their bankers that included fan ownership, representation at the board and a golden share for the supporters.
"They replied that they don't need the money. I respect their decision but remain interested and available should that situation ever change."
Kroenke, who also owns the NFL's Los Angeles Rams, gained full control of Arsenal in 2018.
